TRACK MAINTENANCE LABORER

Overview: This position is responsible for (1) maintenance of the track infrastructure including: construction, inspection and repair of the track, and other railroad properties and facilities; (2) operation of the equipment used in these tasks, and, in some cases, maintenance of that equipment; and (3) travel and work within assigned geographic area.

Safety: Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action.

Track Maintenance Repair and Installation: Repair and rebuild railroad track, using power and non-power hand tools as necessary. Lift and carry track material, cut brush, trees and vegetation, and clear the right-of-way of litter and cargo spillage. Maintenance will be performed by pulling spikes from ties, drilling holes through rails for insertion of bolts, and fastening, tightening or loosening bolts.

Maintain Trackbed: Cut rail, manually compress ballast, remove and install ties, lift, roll, and adjust rails, and lift and carry track material with assistance.

Operate Equipment: Remove and replace ballast, operate large non-powered hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, cutters, and sledgehammers, and operate proper electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic hand tools such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders.

Salary/Benefits: Entry pay rate is based on experience. Employees receive an annual benefit package valued at $22,000.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • RSI is a drug-free company and employees will be subject to random drug tests.
  • Willing to submit to an criminal and driving background review.
  • Available to work in the geographic areas.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
  • Available to work a 40 hour work week subject to overtime, on-call and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • Available to travel to job sites around the region and remain on site for extended periods, sometimes days or weeks at a time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds frequently.
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver's license, or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
  • Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling.
  • Able to perform work on uneven surfaces; frequently climb on/off equipment.
  • Able to work in conditions that include loud noise and fumes, work on and around heavy and moving machinery, bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time and use hand tools.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.

TRACK MAINTENANCE LABORER, TRUCK DRIVER, WELDER, MACHINE OPERATOR

Overview: This position is responsible for: (1) maintenance of the track infrastructure, including constructing, inspecting and repairing track, and other railroad properties and facilities; (2) operation of the equipment used in these tasks, and, in some cases, maintenance of the equipment; (3) the transportation of the crew and the equipment to and from the jobsite location; and (4) travel and work within assigned geographic area.

Safety: Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action

Track Maintenance Repair and Installation: Repair and rebuild railroad track, using power and non-power hand tools as necessary. Truck Driver: Operate trucks/equipment in excess of 26,000 pounds as required.

Truck Maintenance: Ensure that trucks and equipment are in good repair and submit the necessary paperwork in connection with repairs to the truck or the welding equipment.

Welder: Weld, grind, and cutting of rail. Operate welding truck in safe and efficient manner. Order material, such as welding supplies, grinding stones, reports and safety equipment. Maintain daily records and time sheets.
